Luger.īut unlike Pastor Troy, Waka Flocka Flame has managed to parlay his boisterousness into something widely appealing. It’s probably not an accident that the only veteran producer with a beat on this album is Lil Jon (“Smoke, Drank,” produced with Niko), whose densely layered gut-punch club songs clearly imprinted themselves on Mr. The tracks from other producers here largely feel like affronts, or maybe intermissions. Just two hyped-up maximalists out for some mayhem. Often it sounds as if they’re engaged in a cage match, or a street brawl: the rapper holding forth on weapons, jewelry and gang signs, while the producer toys with all the cinematically inclined presets on his keyboard and drum machine. Several songs on “Flockaveli” feature the signature Luger effect, a quickly accelerating series of tinny synth darts like an airplane on a runway right up until Waka Flocka Flame jumps in with the opening line of his first verse like a heavy-booted kick to the sternum. Luger’s tracks are cluttered and loud always loud but unfold with grace, no bombastic drum out of place.
